Cool Affordable Spots in TriBeCa

Tribeca is very well known for its six-figures lofts and rich and famous occupants. Robert De Niro, Jay-Z and Beyonce are among them. But don’t think TriBeCa is only for well-heeled locals, there are some affordable cool spots such as Kaffe 1668 (271 & 401 Greenwich St) where you can find reasonably priced lunch options. One of my favorite is Low Carb Amazing Meal with organic tofu meatballs and homemade marinara sauce it’s a perfect option for vegetarians or people on gluten free diet. For meat lovers I would recommend homemade Swedish Meatballs or The Good Sausage Sandwich, all lunch items are around $10.00. Overall it’s a great place with a very inviting atmosphere and friendly staff where you can enjoy a good cup of latte, fresh pastry or grab lunch and stay on a budget.

Another good place for lunch is Mulberry & Vine Café (73 Warren St). Everything there is fresh and health-driven, they use locally grown organic produce. It’s a great spot for vegetarians and vegans as well as for individuals on gluten free diet. Its not the cheapest place for lunch (three cold sides $12, two cold and one hot $13 and individual sides cost $4.50 cold and $5.50 hot)  but quite a good deal for dinner especially with all the options you can choose from such as Korean braised bbq beef with pickled onions or Tomatillo Chicken stew. Mulberry & Vine makes its own iced teas and smoothies and brings in gluten-free baked goods and coffee from Laughing Man which is another cool spot in Tribeca.

Another low key option for lunch in TriBeCa is Macaron café located on 303 Greenwich Street. It has whimsical décor, very friendly staff and of course French colorful macarons, they make about 50 kinds that rotate with the seasons. But macarons are not the only items on the menu that you might want to try, the café also makes 8 kinds of sandwiches and salads priced from $7.75 to $10.00.

After a long day you would definitely want to relax in a cool wine bar such as Terroir located on Harrison St. They have very large selection of wines (around 150) average price per glass is around &14. Great selection of appetizers such as Fried Lamb Sausage with sage leaves ($9) or Beet and Gorgonzola Risotto Balls ($8) and of course cheese about 8 kinds (around $5-$6 each).

Feel hungry, just couple blocks away from the wine bar another must go TriBeCa spot Locande Verde owned by Robert De Niro. The ambience and service are incongruously warm. The menu is big but not overwhelming, the dishes at dinner are generous enough to share. The chef Andrew Carmellini delivers Italian home cooking in a very elegant manner. Try My Grandmother’s Ravioli ($22) so delicate they just melt in your mouth. And don’t forget to save room for dessert its totally worth it. Locande Verde’s pastry chef Karen De Masco is a maestro of sweet treats that are homey and elegant in the same time.  try La Fantasia di Visciola (sour cherry lambrusco sorbetto, goat’s milk gelato, white balsamic meringa, caramel, sbrisolone $10) what else can you wish for?
